Nestled in a timeless leafy hamlet amongst lush rolling fields at the top of the Porthallow valley you will find The Hen House, just a mile from the sea A tranquil oasis of peace, relaxation and bird song set in two acres of private grounds Here you will discover:
A secluded wild flower meadow - a perfect place for our fun informal tai-chi workshops, basking on the sun loungers or gazing at the myriad of stars at night
| Our wild pond edged with arum lilies and full of all kinds of toads, frogs, newst and dragonflies.A perfect shaded place to sit and watch the boats of the Fal estuary and St.Mawes making their way through the blue waters around Pendennis point | |
A courtyard patio which each of our guest rooms opens onto, lit with fairy lights at night. After a fine dinner in one of the many local restaurants and pubs we will recommend complete your evening here and share traveller's tales with other guests, warmed by the chiminea and a glass of wine at the end of the day's exploration of this magical peninsula
Your hosts,Sandy & Gary settled here five years ago having "escaped" from the Thames Valley.Gary's career B.C. (Before Cornwall) was as a licensed engineer for British Airways at Heathrow, having learnt his trade in the R.A.F.His daily commute now,a few yards up to the best view on the peninsula beats the M4 any day!To relax he volunteers with Coastwatch and "treads the boards" with The Gweek Players.
Sandys career B.C. was as an area manager for a large catering company covering several counties. She then enjoyed a fascinating couple of years working for the National Trust at The Vyne in Hampshire with a re-mit of marketing, weddings and summer events. Her "spare" time is spent between the local tourism association, the W.I. and theatrical productions. In the winter months she inspires other businesses to be greener by teaching a Btech in sustainable tourism as outreach training from Cornwall college

Hen House Happenings
| Ducks have arrived in The Hen House Three Aylesburys named Arthur,Amelia and Annastasia.Snowy white on arrival but not for long as they love nothing better than a muddy bath. The two Muscovies,Melissa and Malcomn came on a "Buy 3 get 2 free" deal-we now know why!A new species of Duickens seemed likely,so keen were the ducks to mate with anything on two legs so a fence now divides our two egg production teams |
We have been beavering away in the depths of winter to up grade The Bantams Roost-knocking out walls and swopping doors to create a new modern kitchen with oodles of cupboard and work space, fitting a toasty wood burning stove for the winter months and a monster shower in the new bathroom spacious enough for four to share!! A quiet palette of muted creams with a soft caramel painted on the pine floor to match the gallery | | |
| The extension to the Hen House barn is finally finished down to the slates on the lintels and the hand rail on the juliette balcony.A very smart wood burning stove has completed the lounge and we now have as much living space as we provide for our guests. With all the renovation projects out of the way in the winter months the precious peace and tranquility of The Hen House has returned. All you can hear is bird song, the hum of the wild life and maybe the odd cockeral crowing! |
